1very misleading  Sep 09, 2009 By Walt Willis "Walt"
do not be mislead by the pretty box. This Japanese learning set comes out like a hastily put together package of CD's that in some cases contain the exact same information from CD to CD but in a different format and in another cases leaves you with bits and pieces of information that you have to try and sort out yourself. There are no seamless transitions from CD to CD and no common format to follow. Each CD could very well be from different Japanese learning programs. One of the advanced CD's assumes that you know more than you can possibly have learned regardless of whether or not you mastered ALL of the material before that point and basically that CD (as well as others) become pretty much useless. With that said...I found the first CD pretty useful for building up your vocabulary on everyday words.

1Mac problems and not comparable to RS  Apr 10, 2010 By C. Weaver "PsychoDoc"
I have used Rosetta Stone and this product. I agree that neither are quite what they promise, which is an EASY way to learn a language. For someone to compare this favorably to RS is highly suspicious to me. After multiple failed attempts to get this product to work on my Mac, I went to a PC laptop to actually check it out. This product compares to Rosetta Stone in the way that a fast food hamburger compares to a well-prepared steak. This is really nothing more than a mildly-interactive vocabulary list. Perhaps that's worth the money, but don't confuse it with the advanced learning procedures from Rosetta Stone. My problem with RS is that they do not show you enough direct translation vocabulary. So in that sense, this would be a nice complement to RS. The audio CD's included in this are actual lessons, thus not really helpful for drilling and memorizing. It's really not comparable to RS at all, and any comparison is incredibly unfair. They should take those claims off of their packaging. I'll be demanding a refund for the Mac incompatibility, but otherwise would make use of the money back guarantee. Save yourself the hassle.

2Okay for vocab, nothing else  Sep 24, 2009 By Bradford D. Warren
I regret purchasing this product. There is no sort of structured lessons in this program. You start the program, and you choose what catagory of vocab you want to learn (ie, numbers, body parts, days of the week, etc). There is not sort of grammar whatsoever. The production value of the software is very low. They fit the whole thing on 2 cds. I don't recommend this product at all.

2Another vote that you should skip this product  Feb 14, 2010 By K. Amberg
I agree with the previous 2 reviewers. The only reason that I didn't give this one star was, as the other 2 reviewers said, in the first level you will learn some basic words. Greetings, body parts, colors, counting, etc... After that it's a complete waste. The second level has 10 different units. Each of these are 10 phrases that you must learn by rote and most of them you won't use. How often do you say things like "I am allergic to nuts"? OK, maybe useful if you actually are but most of the phrases you won't use. No grammar, or continuity from level 1 to level 2, The 3 third level, like the others said, is much too hard (I gave up on it but may actually revisit it soon as I know a lot more Japanese than I used to. I paid for the dang thing, may as well get what I can out of it.) What makes me really mad is there claim that it's just as good as Rosetta Stone at a fraction of the cost. What a bunch of bunk! Now, Rosetta Stone isn't perfect but it's about 10 times a better product, and what do you know, it costs 10 times as much. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

4Learning Japanese  Sep 08, 2010 By Gabriel J
I really like the Instant Immersion Japanese. I've learned Japanese from books, audio, college courses, living in Japan with a personal tutor. I think Instant Immersion Japanese is a great start to learning the language. They help you to learn the same way a native would learn the language. I think that's very important. In comparison, there are many books and learning devices that are just too "scholarly" for me. I'd rather learn more naturally, which I believe Instant Immersion Japanese does. There was a skip in levels from disc 1 to disc 2, but if you use this a supplemental aid, then it works great. It's not just this and I'll be the greatest Japanese student I can be. I highly recommend Instant Immersion to anyone to seeking to start off in learning a language.
